Dr. Abella delivers his message during the opening program for SY 2016-2017.

The University formally welcomed to its fold the 967 senior high school (SHS) and some 250 first year students during its Opening Program for School Year 2016-2017 held last August 10 at the University Auditorium.

President Tereso A. Abella led the CLSU administrative and academic officials and faculty members in extending the university’s open arms to the new students who are the latest addition to the CLSU family, particularly, to the studentry.

In his message, the president underscored the strengths of CLSU. “You enrolled in a school which is among the Top 10 Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in the Philippines as recognized by the Commission on Higher Education. CLSU is a Center of Excellence in six programs, namely: Agriculture, Fisheries, Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Science and Medicine, Teacher Education and Biology,” President Abella said.

He also mentioned that “CLSU is recognized by CHED thru the National Agriculture and Fisheries Education System as the National University for Agriculture and Fisheries, and National Center for Small Ruminants”.

President Abella also said, “We have high caliber faculty members who are recognized in their fields of specialization by national and international organizations”.

He urged the new students to take advantage of the academic atmosphere at CLSU “that will make your college education journey in the university exciting and challenging”.

Jana Victoria B. San Pedro of Calamba, Laguna, a representative of the SHS students, said in her message of expectation and commitment that she chose to enroll at CLSU because her father was a graduate of this university. “The discipline, hard work, and good qualities that I see in my Dad made me believe that with how CLSU honed, trained and educated my father then, the same will be how CLSU will hone, train and educate me now… So let us not miss this opportunity to be trained by competent teachers, to maximize the chance to develop our potentials and to enjoy nature at its best here on the CLSU campus”.

Another representative, Matthew B. Alabardero of General Natividad, Nueva Ecija, said “We, the students, are so thankful for all your efforts and sacrifices to make this university great – greatness that we now experience and enjoy, and in return, I believe that we should all do our best not because we deserve CLSU, but more importantly, so that CLSU will deserve us”.

Meanwhile, in her closing remarks, Dr. Melissa E. Agulto, Vice President for Academic Affairs, congratulated the students for making it to the university. “Bukod sa kalidad ng edukasyon, masuwerte kayo na natanggap kayo sa isang pamantasang malinis, luntian, at payapa”. She posed a challenge to the students, “Sana ay huwag ninyong sayangin ang pagkakataon na ibinigay ng CLSU upang dito kayo ay makapag-aral, upang dito kayo ay makapagtapos… Welcome and enjoy the thrills of learning at Central Luzon State University”.
